Are lessons free?Yes! Our instructors are all high school students who like to volunteer their time and give back to the community. We welcome your donations to support us, but they are not necessary for your child to participate. All donations are used to cover operating expenses, masterclasses with professional musicians, workshops, and webinars. Your donations will also help us to set up scholarships for students in need of financial aid in order to further their musical journeys. All donations are tax-deductible. How qualified are your instrument instructors? All of our instrument instructors are high school students who have at least 5 years of experience on their instruments. They all take private lessons with professionals.
-
What do I expect during a lesson? All of our instrument lessons are one-on-one in order to provide the best experience for the student. During the first lesson, students will talk with the instructor and identify their goals. Students can use the lesson time to work with their instructor in various areas. For example, the student could use the lesson to prepare for an audition or competition, work on specific techniques (tempo, intonation, bowing techniques, phrasing, etc.), learn about time management and what is the most effective way to practice, or they can simply have someone there to assist them with their practicing with positive feedback and encouragement (a practice buddy).
-
Where do instrument lessons take place? All our instrument lessons take place on Zoom. A zoom link will be sent to the student once they book a lesson.
-
How long are instrument lessons? Each lesson is half an hour long. All times on our website are Eastern Standard Time (EST). Please make sure to convert the time accordingly based on where you live.
-
How do I book a lesson? You can click here to select the instrument you would like your lesson on, then choose your preferred instructor for the lesson, and what day and time you would like your lesson to be. All of our instructors have different availability hours so if you cannot find a time with one instructor, sign up for a lesson with another one of our instructors! Lessons can be booked months or weeks in advance, but please make sure to give at least a 24-hour notice to the instructor.
-
Do you teach students how to read music?Yes, a student can use their lesson time to learn how to read music with their instructor. We also offer music theory lessons. Click here for more information.
-
Do you take students who have just started on their instruments? It depends on the individual instrument instructor’s preference. Check out their profiles here to see if they're comfortable with teaching complete beginners.
